My name is Porsha Barnett, founder of Keys in My City NYC.
New York City has always been home to me. It’s where I’ve built, learned, and connected with so many families navigating the housing system. But over time, I’ve seen something that never sat right with me — too many people are forced to leave this city, not because they want to, but because they don’t fully understand how the system works or feel like they’ve run out of options.
The truth is, there are apartments in New York City. There are opportunities. Whether you have a voucher or you don’t — housing exists.
The problem isn’t always availability. The problem is access, information, and connection.
I created Keys in My City NYC to bridge that gap. I’ve worked closely with individuals and families in shelters, as well as those already in apartments trying to stay afloat. This platform was built to make the process easier, clearer, and more accessible.
To help more people stay in New York City and secure housing by giving them the tools, knowledge, and access they need.
If you’re here, just know — there are options. There are doors. And with the right guidance, you can find the key.
“This is not your final destination. Use what you have — even your voucher — as a stepping stone, not a stopping point. Keep going for you and your family.” — Porsha Barnett
